Glasgow, MO resident and longtime trucker, Joe Thompson, 74, passed away suddenly on September 17, 2025.
Joseph Dale “Joe” Thompson was born November 26, 1950 in Glasgow, MO. He was one of six children born to the late Emil Julius “E.J.” and Dorothy (Littleton) Thompson. Joe attended and graduated from Glasgow High School with the class of 1969. A year later, Joe enlisted with the United State Army Reserves. He was honorably discharged February 13, 1971, with a reserve obligation until April of 1975. On April 9, 1983, Joe married the love of his life, Becky Wilson, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Glasgow. The couple have shared six children, and over 42 years of marriage.
Joe worked in the trucking industry all his life. He started his trucking career in the family business, Thompson Trucking. Joe then worked for Potter Transportation out of Boonville for a number of years. For the past 30 years he’s been hauling steel for Monnig Industries. Joe’s work ethic and passion for trucking was second to none. He was a devoted, faith-driven family man, who loved attending his kids and grandkids sporting events. Joe enjoyed time spent outdoors, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He loved sparking up conversations, and his kindness and sense of humor will be fondly remembered by his family and friends. Joe was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and an active member of St. Mary Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Becky Thompson; six children, Molly (Josh) Monnig of Glasgow, Cody (Jill) Thompson of Glasgow, Shelby Thompson of Homer, AK, Jay (Kaleigh) Thompson of Glasgow, Abby (Patrick) Norris of Wentzville, MO, and Trace (Alyssa) Thompson of Glasgow; seven grandchildren, Parker, Carter, Cruze, Wady, Ty, Halle, and Charlee, and baby Rylee on the way; four siblings, Ronnie Thompson of Glasgow, Nancy (Mark) Colvin of Fayette, MO, Michael Thompson of Lake Ozarks, MO, and Kelly (Randy) Smith of Lee’s Summit, MO. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death a brother, Alan Thompson.
Prayer service and Rosary will begin at 4:15 PM, Friday, September 19, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Glasgow. Visitation will follow from 5-8 PM, at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM, Saturday, September 20, 2025 at St. Mary Church, with Fr. Joshua Duncan officiating. Burial with military honors will follow services at Washington Cemetery.
